Shane Dan Turner of American Idol Season 23

Shane Dan Turner is among the artists who auditioned for the new season of American Idol.

Idol officially returns to ABC on Sunday, March 9 with Carrie Underwood joining Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan at the judges’ table.

Here’s more about Shane:

* He’s a singer, songwriter and guitarist from New York City who’s been busking on the subway there for about a dozen years.

* Shane’s also released a good deal of music, including a 2021 EP calld “Nightmare” and a 2023 EP called “Cell Phone Blues.”

* He re-released a song called “Let It Be,” one of his first singles, in January. You can check out another of his originals, “$20 to My Name,” below.

* Shane says he comes from a musical family. His dad played guitar for 40 years; his mom was office manager for a music entertainment company. His grandfather was a profession Chazan, a synagogue operatic singer.

* Both Shane and his brother were members of an Orthodox Jewish Choir called the Yeshiva Boys Choir growing up. Shane says he sings on two albums released by the group.

* In addition to busking, he’s available to perform at all types of functions and events in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area, he says on his website. He adds that his setlist includes more than 550 cover songs and more than 50 originals.

* In addition to the original music on streaming sites, he released a full-length album called Subway Standards that’s available through that website.

* Shane lists lots of musical influences on his web bio, including John Lennon and the Beatles. One of his most popular TikTok’s is his cover of the Beatles’ “Real Love” performed outside John Lennon’s New York City home.

* Writes Shane in his Spotify bio: “Music has been such a big joy in my life. So much so that there hasn’t been a day in my life where music wasn’t on my mind.”
