Her audition: Sharane Calister, 24, of Des Moines, Iowa, performed “Make It Rain” by Ed Sheeran. Alicia Keys turned early; Kelly Clarkson later turned as well, at Alicia’s urging. Sharane joined Team Alicia.

Her background: Sharane says she grew up on gospel music. Her grandmother forced her and her sister to be in the choir. “We grew to love it.” But her home life was turbulant. Sharane and her sister lived with their grandmother for a while, then she got too ill to care for them and they were separated and placed in foster care. The twins were reunited in choir class in high school. And Shanice was on hand for Sharane’s blind audition. As for music, Sharane works as a security guard, but says her employers are flexible in allowing her to perform when she has a gig.

What the show didn’t show:

* She began singing at at 3, according to a 2014 interview, and she’s most often performed as Lady Rane.

* According to her Voice bio, Sharane also learned to play the violin when she was young.

* She studied music at the Des Moines Area Community College, according to her Facebook page.

* She’s performed in a girl group called the Candeez, billed as “the hottest female variety band and recording artist in Iowa” on their Facebook page.

* The Candeez, featuring Lady Rane, N.Y., T Flip and Yanni, covered a wide range of music, from country to 1970s disco to Top 40 hits and had been together two years when this interview was filmed in September 2014.

* Sharane told Voice Views she was with that group for about a year and a half before two of the members moved away and she decided she wanted to go in a different route.

* Sharane wound up forming The Feel Right, a six-piece band that specializes in soul, jazz and R&B. You can check out a video of Sharane performing with The Feel Right below.

* She’s still performing with the band, says they’re based in Des Moines and perform at wedding and other events.

* As for her own music, Sharane said she’s like to record R&B / soul originals. “That’s where my heart is,” she told Voice Views.
