His audition: Tanner Gomes, 28, of Yuma, Ariz., auditioned with “Cowboys and Angels” by Dustin Lynch. Kelly turned as his he the chorus. Gwen and John also turned at the last minute, leaving the country coach as the only one not to. John complimented his rich baritone. Kelly said Tanner’s voice reminds him of old-time country. Noting Kelly turned first, Tanner opted to join her team.

Here’s more about Tanner:

* He’s a native of Yuma, Ariz., and performed around the southwest as the Tanner Gomes Band at one point.

* In March 2019, he announced on Facebook that he was heading to Nashville “to fully invest myself in this career.”

* He released a debut single called “Rain” back in 2014. You can check out a snippet of it here. Unfortunately, the song and a follow-up EP released later that year are no longer available on streaming sites.

* Tanner also teamed up with Tyler Johnson on a song called “Welcome Home” that came out earlier this year and that you can check out below.

* Tyler wrote the song about his grandfather, who died of Alzheimer’s, and played it at the first songwriter round Tanner participated in after moving to Nashville.

* The two eventually became roommates and collaborated on the official version of the song, with Tyler’s dad playing lead guitar.

* In a 2014 interview following the release of his debut single, Tanner said he grew up singing all the time. “That’s all that made me happy,” he said.

* But he kept his love for singing a secret until his junior year in high school when a choir teacher caught him singing in the hallway and coerced him into joining the choir.

* That 2014 interview was conducted by Madeline Hunt, who became Tanner’s girlfriend and is now a news anchor for Channel 7 in Boston.

* At the time, Tanner said one of his biggest inspirations in music is Garth Brooks.
