Zania Alake is among the singers to announce they auditioned for Season 20 of The Voice.

Here’s more about Zania.

* She released her debut single, “Tempted,” in September. It’s a song about being with one person, but thinking about another, Zania explains in an Instagram post. “A lot of times we put our all into something, someone, a relationship, and we don’t always get the same back in return,” she adds. You can check out the song below.

* In a Speak Yo Mind podcast interview, Zania says she co-wrote “Tempted” and it’s a good example of her art because her music speaks “to women.”

* “Tempted” is the first single off a planned EP called “Finally.” That EP hasn’t dropped and a release date hasn’t been announced.

* “It’s called ‘Finally,’ because I’m finally putting some music out,” Zania admits during the Podcast. “I’ve always procrastinated a lot with my music.”

* That said, Zania is a veteran entertainer, working as a background vocalist for about 10 years, according to an article about the single.

* She admits to being shy as a performer when she started out, but says singing background vocals allowed her to gain confidence.

* She’s Detroit born and raised and has done background work for local artists and R&B singers like Phil Perry and Tyrese.

* Among her career highlights is a sold-out Anita Baker Tribute show that was so well received Anita reached out to her afterwards.

* Judging from her Instagram page, Zania has also been singing with an entertainment band called Elevate.

Editor’s note: Season 20 of The Voice is scheduled to kick off Monday, March 1 on NBC.
