Remember Megan Joy, the quirky Idol contestant who make bird noises when she was eliminated?

Well, she hasn’t released any music since Idol, but it hasn’t been for a lack of trying.

And now season eight’s ninth-place finisher is trying a new approach, a Kickstarter campaign to raise $15,000 by the end of August to help finance a seven-song EP.

Megan says she’s written 23 original songs since Idol and has “a beautiful album that is 80 percent done and I need a little help to finish her up.”

In her Kickstarter bio, Megan says she spent many months label shopping after writing those 23 songs.

“It wasn’t cool,” she writes. “I have the need to control my time, music and money being a mom. Labels have the need to control my time, music and money being money grubbing suits. It didnt work out for either of us.”

So she’s making the Kickstarter appeal, complete with a video as quirky as you’d expect, which you can check out here.

It includes snippets of some of her music. For more of her music, check out her Facebook page. You’ll find eight songs there, including a splendid little tune called “Incomplete.”

As for the Kickstarter campaign, it’s going pretty well.

As of about noon today, more than 110 people had contributed a total of more than $5,100.
