After American Idol, After The Voice

Melinda Doolittle helps give Britney’s ‘Toxic’ a PMJ makeover

Doolittle is without doubt one of the finest vocalists ever to step foot on the American Idol stage.

But if you were developing a set list for the Season 6 standout, Britney Spears’ “Toxic” wouldn’t likely come to mind.

Yet there she is, covering the song on Postmodern Jukebox’s new album, “Squad Goals.”

You can check out her splendid vocal in the video at right.

Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, of course, gives a retro jazz or swing twist to more modern hits.

The Squad Goals’ album is 14 tracks strong, and Melinda’s far from the only singing show star joining in to provide the vocals.

Frequent PMJ collaborator Haley Reinhart is featured on a cover of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun.” The video for that song has already amassed more than 1 million views on YouTube.

Also featured on the new album, which hit iTunes Thursday …

* Luke Edgemon from Season 4 of The Voice on a cover of “MMMBop.”

* Von Smith, a former American Idol semifinalist, on a cover of “Dancing in the Dark.”

* Brielle Von Hugel, another former Idol semifinals, on a cover of “All of Me.”

* and Maiya Sykes from Season 7 of The Voice, on a cover of “Juicy.”

Follow the links for the videos of those performances.
