NBC is about to air its third Family Movie Night film Friday night.
Of course, for American Idol fans, these have become more about the music than the movie.
The soundtrack for the first two films — “Secrets of the Mountain” and “The Jensen Project” — featured unreleased songs by Brooke White and Jordin Sparks.
The third installment — “A Walk in My Shoes” — features a song by Michael Johns called “This Life.” You can check out a snippet of the song here.
The 12-track CD also features songs by Will Tucker, Jaclyn James, Steven Manuel and others.
Of course, like other Family Night Movie CDs, it’s only available as a joint purchase with the DVD of the movie. Both should be available in Walmart Saturday.
Walmart andP&G (Proctor and Gamble) are co-sponsors of Family Movie Night, designed so parents “can be confident that the programming on their screens will be fun and action-packed, without the worry of having to dive for the remote to change the channel when inappropriate ads or other content comes on.” So says the website.
As for “A Walk in My Shoes,” it’s about a stressed-out high school teacher who can’t understand underperforming students and parents who don’t care … until she’s in a car accident and wakes living the life of one of those parents.
Meanwhile, it’s nice to see Michael’s music getting any sort of exposure. The season seven contestant’s post-Idol CD,
“Hold Back My Heart,” was released independently and was one of the best Idol albums released last year.
Michael’s fansite is also reporting that two of his pre-Idol tunes — “Statues” and “Miss You Love” — are available on an album called “Bands Under the Radar, Vol. 1,” which was released Nov. 1.
Those songs are available for download individually from amazon.com and iTunes.

Thanks for the article! I love Michael’s debut cd and Statues and Miss You Love from his days with The Rising are excellent. The snippet of This Life sounds great. You can listen to it here too on the movie’s myspace… http://t.co/aoO0PRp Michael needs more exposure for sure – it’s hard to get that when you’re independent.
Love the snippet of “This Life” and enjoyed the article very much!
I agree that Michael’s CD Hold Back My Heart is excellent and it is the most played album I own. Looking forward to more great music from Michael in the coming year and have really enjoyed his pre-idol songs that were released by Bands Under The Radar Records..check them out!
