With a team packed full of guitar-slinging singer-songwriters, Blake Shelton asked two buddies to go head-to-head in The Voice Season 15 battle round.

He pitted Joey Green against Michael Lee and asked them to perform Bonnie Raitt’s “Thing Called Love.”

Joey, 35, and Michael, 30, both hail from the Fort Worth, Texas, area, have been playing music professionally for years and have already released music.

Blake wound up declaring Michael the winner of the battle; Joey was eliminated when no coach stepped in to steal him following the pre-taped match.

“Honestly, whenever me and Joey got the song — and, you know, me and Joey have been friends for a long time — we were basically just trying to make it an impossible decision for Blake to pick one over the other,” Michael told Voice Views.

“We both just wanted to make it a great performance and a duet because you have two Fort Worth boys going head to head.

“So I don’t really know if there is like a key to my success over Joey or not. I just think it was a preference of Blake.”

Michael said he appreciated the song choice because “it was right down the middle for both of us.

“Joey has a real high voice and then Bonnie Raitt is very bluesy, like country and rock all wrapped into one. So that song choice was really perfect, really fair.”
