The highlights from this week’s Billboard charts on the American Idol front …

* Adam Lambert’s new single, “If I Had You,” is gaining steam.

* Carrie Underwood’s latest single, “Undo It,” had the briefest of stints at number one on the country singles chart.

Last week, Carrie scored her third straight number one hit off the “Play On” album. But, like “Temporary Home” before it, “Undo It” remained in the top spot for just one week.

This week, “Undo It” drops all the way to number four. “Lover, Lover” by Jerrod Niemann moved into the top spot, followed by the Zac Brown Band’s “Free” at number two and Keith Urban’s “I’m In” at number three.

Meanwhile, Adam’s latest single jumps 13 spots on Billboard’s Hot 100, all the wa from 69 to 56. “If I Had You” debuted on the Hot 100 at number 94 just five weeks ago.

Elsewhere on the Billboard charts this week:

Kris Allen: “Live Like We’re Dying” drops to number 10 on the Idol-friendly adult contemporary chart. Last week, it was number nine.

Kelly Clarkson: “Already Gone” is still around on the adult contemporary chart, checking in at six this week, down from number five.

Daughtry: And “Life After You” is also in the top 10 on the adult contemporary singles chart, holding steady at number seven for the second week. The band’s album also is unchanged, at number 95.

Fantasia: The season three winner’s new single, “Bittersweet,” is number 12 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart, the same spot it held last week. The song climbed as high as number 10. On the Hot 100, the song checks in at 94, up one spot from last week.

Adam Lambert: “If I Had You” wasn’t the only bright spot for Adam on the Billboard charts this week. His album, “For Your Entertainment,” jumped from 106 to 60 on the Billboard 200. And “Whataya Want From Me” is number nine on the adult contemporary chart, up from number 11.

Kimberley Locke: “Strobelight” jumped to number five on the dance / club play chart last week and holds steady in that spot this week.

Carrie Underwood: “Undo It” is number 26 on the Hot 100, the highest ranking Idol single. It was 24 a week ago. “Play On” remains at number five on the country album chart and moved up from 39 to 34 on the Billboard 200. As a bonus, Carrie’s “Some Hearts” album is also in the Billboard 200, at number 191.
