I’ve already documented Adam Lambert’s rise on the music charts this week.
But there’s other noteable news, courtesy of Billboard.
The “Hope For Haiti Now” album tops the Billboard 200 this week, the first time a digitbal album has done that. It’s raised $3 million for Haiti relief efforts, according to this report from Billboard.
The 20-track album features one Idol — Jennifer Hudson singing “Let It Be.” The song is also available for download as a single.
Here’s a complete look at former American Idol contestants on the music charts this week:
* Kris Allen: His first single, “Live Like We’re Dying,” might have peaked. After weeks of impressive gains on the Hot 100, the song dipped from 25 to 26 this week. It’s also number 11 on the adult pop songs chart. Kris’ debut album is now 101 on the Billboard 200, down from 84 a week ago.
* Kelly Clarkson: “Already Gone” is up to number eight on the adult contemporary singles chart. It dropped from 28 to 33 on the Hot 100 this week. Kelly’s fourth album is 179 on the Billboard 200, down 10 spots.
* Daughtry: “Life After You,” the band’s current single, is also headed in the wrong direction, dropping from 48 to 57 on the Hot 100 this week after a similiar jump last week. The band’s album, “Leave This Town,” is number 54 on the Billboard 200, down one spot. “Daughtry,” the band’s debut album, is 175 on the Billboard 200, down from 184.
* Adam Lambert: Pretty impressive week for Adam, huh? “Whataya Want From Me” is turning out to be his most successful chart single, jumping from 55 to 37 on the Hot 100. “For Your Entertainment” jumped 14 spots to 21 on the Billboard 200, the highest it has been since the week it debuted at number three.
* Katharine McPhee: A number of TV appearances have not translated into album sales for “Unbroken.” The second album from the season five runner-up debuted at number 27, dropped to 107 last week and disappeared from the Billboard 200 this week.
* Kellie Pickler: Pretty much a status quo week for the gal who now sports a short blond bob. “Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You” holds steady at 19 on the country singles chart. Her second album is number 30 among country CDs, down one spot from a week ago.
* Ruben Studdard: Idol’s season two champ returns to the R&B singles chart, checking in at number 35 with “Don’t Make ‘Em Like U No More.” The song comes from Ruben’s “Love Is” CD, released last May.
* Carrie Underwood: Album number four, “Play On,” is number three on the country CD chart for the third straight week. It’s also number 24 on the Billboard 200, down from 16.
As for Carrie’s singles, “Cowboy Casanova” is down 10 spots on the Hot 100, to number 55. But “Temporary Home” is heading in the other direction. It’s number 82 on the Hot 100, up from 84 last week, and number 11 among country singles, up from 13.
