Music Charts: Impressive debut for J-Lo’s new single

0

OK, I already covered the big music chart news of the week — the fact that the “Don’t You Want To Stay” duet by Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson has reached number one on the country singles chart.

But there’s good news for new Idol judge Jennifer Lopez, too.

Her new single “On the Floor” crashes into the Hot 100 at number nine.

And I’d call that number nine with a bullet, because the song has been the most popular download on iTunes for the past two days.

In other words, ever since the video was debuted on American Idol Thursday night.

No one can deny that Idol still has selling power.

“On the Floor” also jumps to number 15 on the dance / club play chart. Last week it debuted on that chart at number 26.

Other chart highlights:

* Daughtry’s “September” is at number two on the adult contemporary chart for the fifth straight week. Bruno Mars and “Just the Way You Are” just won’t move out of the way.

* Mandisa, with a new album due out next month, reaches a new peak position of 16 on the Christian singles chart with “Stronger.”

* And Jennifer Hudson’s lead single off her second album jumps seven spots, to 22, on the Hip-Hop / R&B singles chart.
