Music charts: Scotty, Lauren take a tumble

The headline of this blog pretty much tells it all. But let’s face it, the tumble was expected.

People were not going to keep downloading Scotty McCreery’s “Love You This Big” or Lauren Alaina’s “Like My Mother Does” at the same blistering pace in the immediate aftermath of the American Idol finale.

And so Scotty is at number 35 on the Hot 100 this week instead of number 11. And Lauren is at number 60 instead of 20.

The good news  is that Scotty’s single moved up from 32 to 26 on the country chart, and that the compilation album of his Idol performances is still number 10 among country albums. Lauren checks in at number 28 on the same chart.

Of course, real debut albums are in the future for both of Idol’s prized teens.

After Wednesday’s CMT Music Awards, they told CMT that they’ll start listening to possible material for those debut albums next week.

And, no, they said, those debut albums probably won’t include the two of them performing duets. Go here to check out the article, including what Scotty has to say about living in L.A.

Other chart highlights:

* Here comes another country duet featuring an American Idol. This time, Carrie Underwood singing on Brad Paisley’s “Remind Me.” The song moves up four spots on the country chart, from 30 to 26, this week.

* Jennifer Hudson’s sophomore album, “I Remember Me,” continues to hang tough on the R&B album chart, climbing from 18 to 16 this week.

A full recap of Idols on the music charts will follow soon.
