A look at new music released by artists fans met on The Voice.
Corey Kent of Season 8 and “Wild As Her” fame, dropped a new single Friday called “Never Ready.” He calls it the best country song he’s ever written and “maybe ever will. It’s about those moments in life that no matter how much you prepare for, you’re never ready for them. You know they’re coming and but they’re such big moments when they happen, it still feels like they hit you out of left field. It’s a song about real life, real love and real loss.” Corey has also announced his first headline tour ever. It will kick off in September. And he has an album dropping called “Black Bandana” on Sept. 6. Meanwhile, “Wild as Her” is up to 181 million streams on Spotify alone.
Lana Scott, Top 8 on Season 21, released her debut album, “Bigger Than Me,” on Friday. The seven tracks include two songs previously released as singles, “Miracles” and “Where You Go.” Says Lana: “This is the passion project I’ve been fervently working on.” You might say Lana’s been experiencing a pretty active 2024. She also hosted The Voice Double Chair Takeover at Blake Shelton’s Ole Red in Nashville in the spring; then performed the national anthem and a pair of originals at the 150th Kentucky Oaks horse race last month. The Kentucky Oaks is run at Churchill Downs each year the day before the Kentucky Derby.
Jonathan Hutcherson from Season 10 dropped a new single called “Country Hymn” on Friday. Says Jonathan: “This one feels like summertime bluegrass. Hopefully it’ll make ya wanna sing hallelujah with the windows down.” Jonathan’s been delivering lots of music to his fans this year, beginning with his second EP “Outa Here” in January and a pair of songs last month — “Bluegrass Green” and “Kentucky with Me.” His biggest hit remains “Love Takes Time” from 2021 with more than 2 million streams on Spotify.
Ian Flanigan, third on Season 19, has released a cover of “In the Pines” that’s featured on a just-released independent movie, “The Disinvited.” Says Ian: “This one is extra special because it came from a fan who discovered me on the only season of The Voice that they watched. Love how connections like these can lead to incredible collaborations.” And we’re just days away from a new Ian Flanigan original, “Rather Be Country.” Ian released two other singles earlier this year, “I Don’t Smoke” and “Broken Heart.”
