Lots of country favorites from past seasons of The Voice showed up for Blake Shelton’s last night as a coach on The Voice.
Turns out, lots of them also released new music this spring.
Here’s a look at the new music from past champs Craig Wayne Boyd, Todd Tilghman, Danielle Bradberry and past standouts The Swon Brothers, RaeLynn and Ian Flanigan, all of whom performed as members of Team Blake on The Voice.
Todd Tilghman, the Season 18 champ, recently released “Blood, Sweat and Tears,” a “super duper passion project” he dedicated to his mother. He told Everything Nash it’s a song “about all the things that got me where I am today, not the least of which is my mama’s prayers. Everything I am and everything I have is because of the blood of Jesus, the sweat of my own brow, and my mama’s tears.” The single follows “Dig My Grave” and a cover of “Goodness of God” as Todd’s third release of 2023.
Danielle Bradbery, the Season 4 champ, released a song called “Monster” in late April. She describes it as “a song about anxiety. We all face our own type of Monsters in our life and for me that was anxiety. I wrote this one from my heart both for me but also for any of you who have dealt or is dealing with any mental health struggle.” Since it’s release, “Monster” has been streamed narly 300,000 times on Spotify. Danielle has also announced that she’ll be opening for Jordan Davis on his “Damn Good Time” tour this fall. That tour will stop in Baltimore on Sept. 22. Oh, and Danielle will also play The York (PA.) Fair on July 22; that show is free with the price of fair admission,
Craig Wayne Boyd, the Season 7 champ, released a pair of songs simultaneously in May. They include an acoustic version of “Old Rugged Cross,” a song he performed on The Voice and a new single called “Golden.” He wrote the latter with Frank Maroney and Howard Jennings. “Fortunately we were all in the same grateful mindset,” Craig says. “‘Golden’ is a driving-down-the-highway-at-sunset jam and I hope listeners get that every time they hear it.” Craig also released a song called “One Line Away” earlier this year.
The Swon Brothers dropped a pair of singles in May, “The Ride” and “Once in a Small Town.” “Anybody who’s from a small town knows what this one’s about,” Colton says of their latest release. Colton and Zach also just wrapped up a series of shows in their home state of Oklahoma. They released three other songs earlier this year, “Cowboy Amen,” “Lookin’ for Love” and “If Whiskey Could Talk.” “Cowboy Amen” has more than 75,000 streams on Spotify. The Swon Brothers were third on Season 4 of The Voice.
Raelynn asks a simple question in her latest single, “What’s Wrong With That?” Even an independent woman can use a little help from a big, handsome man now and then, right? RaeLynn told American Songwriter the new tune is meant to celebrate the partners of independent women ““because I feel like so many of my fans have awesome husbands that are working their butts off and being good dads and being good husbands and they need a song for them.” The music video for the song features Josh, her own husband, and Daisy, their young daughter. The new song follows “Broken One” and “Somebody Else” as RaeLynn’s third release of 2023.
Ian Flanigan, third on Season 19, recently released acoustic versions of “Under a Southern Sky” and “Devil in My Hands.” They were standout tracks from his full-length post-Voice album “Strong,” which dropped in September. That album featured 11 songs, including “Grow Up,” a duet with his Voice coach Blake Shelton. You can check out Ian’s upcoming shows on his website.
