If you thought Thursday’s episode of Idol was nerve-wracking, imagine how much drama Idol can pack into next week, when two contestants will be eliminated.

The Idols will return to stage Wednesday to sing songs of the 1980s, the show announced this morning.

Hey, at least it’s another broad theme that will allow contestants to sing the genre they want, meaning Scotty McCreery won’t have to lend his country twang to a Motown tune.

Casey AbramsAnd after Thursday’s show, all eyes will be on Casey Abrams, to see what he selects to sing and how he decides to perform it.

After praising his stage presence and crazy, the judges seemed to be telling Casey to tone it down at the end of Thursday’s show.

My advice to Casey: Keep doing what you’re doing.  Of all the contestants, you’ve been the most fun to watch.

Your fans, who probably assumed you were safe this week, will take care of the rest.

On next Thursday’s results show, we’ll also get to hear Fantasia singing her new single, “Collard Greens & Cornbread.”

In addition, Jamie Foxx — pretty much an Idol fixture at this point — and will.i am of the Black Eyed Peas will perform their first musical collaboration on the Idol stage. They’ll sing “Hot Wings (I Wanna Party),” a song from the new animated song, “Rio.”

Which means we’ll be getting another lenghty in-show commercial for an upcoming film.

Oh, well, after the unpredictability of last night’s show, I’m pretty sure no one will mind too much.
