Next up: The Idols take on the music of Queen

0

No secrets about the Idol theme for next week.

The show has already announced a Queen-themed performance show for next Wednesday night, with the top six taking on songs made famous by Freddie Mercury and his bandmates.

In addition, the top six will perform a medley of Queen songs with Brian May and Roger Taylor, two of the group’s original members.

Hmm, wonder if there will be an Adam Lambert sighting?

Anyway, it’s not the first go-round for this theme on Idol. I recall it be used at least once before, back in Season 5.

Kellie Pickler took on “Bohemian Rhapsody” that year in what the members of Queen classified as a brave song choice, with a bit of a chuckle.

It turned out to be one of my all-time favorite Idol performances, because as awful as the idea sounded, the end result was pretty impressive.

Wonder who will do “Bohemian” this time around? Joshua would be my bet.

No word yet on whether the Idols will be singing one or two songs each. Here’s hoping for the latter.

Also planned for next week, three performances on the results show — Katy Perry, Stefano Langone and Queen Extravaganza, which Idol describes as the official touring Queen tribute.
