Nicki Minaj took three awards, including Top Rap Artist, at the Billboard Music Awards Sunday night.
But former American Idol contestants came away empty-handed.
Carrie Underwood had been nominated as top country artist and for top country album.
Both awards went to Taylor Swift, who won eight times on the night.
Phillip Phillips had been nominated for top rock album and top rock single for “Home.”
The honor for top rock album went to Mumford and Sons for “Babe.” Gotye took top rock song honors for “Somebody That I Used to Know.”
Other winners included Maroon 5 for Top 100 artist. Adam Levine’s band had been nominated in several categories.
Voice judge Shakira was nominated for top Latin artist, but the award went to Jenni Rivera.
Nicki’s other Billboard Music Awards were for top streaming artist and top rap album (“Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded”).
