Oh, no, E! Online says Miley’s coming back as a mentor

In a dramatic (LOL) turn of events, Miley will serve as Lauren’s mentor alongside Jimmy Iovine.

You’ll recall that two weeks ago, Lauren sang Miley’s “The Climb” on Songs from the Movies Night.

During that week’s mentoring session, Jimmy told Lauren she’s a better singer than Miley. Much better, in fact.

Lauren covered her face and giggled, as 16-year-old Lauren is prone to do.

Jimmy, apparently, was so mortified that he’d spoken the truth and pointed out Miley’s vocal shortcomings to 20 million-plus people, that he immediately apologized to Miley and invited her to appear on the show … or so goes the E! story.

Well, Miley mentored the Idols for a week last year. I recall hating the idea, since she was younger than most of the contestants and special only for the ability to make tons of money with marginal vocal talent. I don’t remember her saying much of merit. I think I remember closeups of her chomping gum as the Idols performed that night.

Now, if she’s going to give Lauren a pep talk about relaxing and cutting loose on stage, I’m fine with that.

After a promising start, Lauren hasn’t exactly dazzled on Idol. She’s been competent week after week. If anything, the fun Lauren we met during the early rounds has regressed a bit.

But if Lauren struts out on stage tonight and spins around a stripper pole while singing a Carole King song … well, Idol will have gotten what it deserved.

My guess is Lauren will meet Miley, cover her face and giggle.

Such drama (LOL).
