Around the time American Idol launches its final season, we’ll likely get new music from one of the singers who started the phenomenon.

And I’m not talking about Kelly Clarkson.

Justin Guarini, runner-up to Kelly way back in Season 1, has launched a Pledge Music campaign to fund an EP of original music.

And it’s off to a solid start. With more than three weeks left in the campaign, Justin is already 46 percent of the way to his campaign goal.

“I’m excited because it’s been a long time since I’ve released new original music,” Justin said in a video you can watch here. “I’ve been working on it and working on it. It’s so exciting to know … people want to hear more from me.”

Justin has been in Dallas, starring in a new musical called “Moonshine: That Hee Haw Musical” and based on the classic TV show.

At the same time, he’s been working on the EP and says that, if all goes as planned, it should be released in early 2016.

Justin, 36, last released music — a jazz album called “Stranger Things Have Happened” — in 2005. His first album, a post-Idol pop effort, came out in 2002.

He’s also kept busy acting in the interim, appearing on Broadway in “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” and “American Idiot.”
