Season 10, Season 10 Semifinals

Online voting comes to American Idol

2

Nigel Lythgoe has announced changes for season 10 of American Idol.. (FOX Photo)As rumored, American Idol will add online voting in Season 10.

Idol will retain the free telephone lines it has always had.

Idol will continue to allow unlimited text voting via AT&T.

And now fans also will be able to go to americanidol.com, log in using their Facebook account and cast up to 50 votes for the contestant or contestants of their choice.

The announcement came today; those of us who follow the show had heard rumblings about it since last summer.

Hmm, and here I was hoping Idol would devise a way to limit each viewer to one vote.

Well, I always knew that was a pipe dream.

Anyway, you can start voting online next Tuesday, after the male semifinalists perform from 8 to 9:30 p.m.

The gals follow next Wednesday, during the same time period.

You’ll be able to follow along here both nights. I’ll be blogging live and grading each performance, A-F, as it happens.

Then we get a two-hour results show on Thursday, where the finalists for season 10 will be revealed.
