A quick round of applause for The Voice.
The show has a less than stellar record when it comes to supporting past contestants.
But for the Season 14 knockouts, the show will bring back four past winners to serve as mentors.
Yep, folks, real alumni. I’m sure you’re as shocked as I am, but it’s true. The show has even posted photos to prove it.
Returning in the role of mentors will be Chloe Kohanski for Team Blake Shelton, Cassadee Pope for Team Kelly Clarkson, Jordan Smith for Team Adam Levine and Chris Blue for Team Alicia Keys.
Chloe, Chris and Jordan were all the last artists to win a season with their respective coaches. And it’ll be great to see Cassadee back on the show. Hopefully, we’ll learn a bit about the new music plans of all three in the process.
And this sure beats the heck out of the show’s habit of bringing in guest mentors with no connection to the show (but, in many cases, new releases to promote).
The knockout round begins Monday.
Now, if The Voice would only invite back some past contestants to perform their great original music during the Season 14 result shows …
I know. I shouldn’t expect miracles. Baby steps, right?
