Because I have a feeling we’re going to hear an awful lot of it on the radio over the next couple of months.

The song is called “Raging Fire.” And I’m pretty certain anyone who enjoyed “Home” and “Gone, Gone, Gone” is going to love this tune.

Phillip told Billboard that he wrote the song with Todd Clark, Derek Fuhrmann and Gregg Wattenberg and his label wanted to release it immediately.

“It’s a love song,” he said, but it’s also a little heavier, too. It’s got a little bit of an edgier side to it, and I really like that.”

A sophomore album is coming quickly on the heels of the single, perhaps as soon as May, Phillips says.

That would be a quick turn-around for a second album by Idol standards. Most recent winners have let two years lapse between album number one and album number two.

Speaking of quick, we’ll get a chance to hear Phillip perform the new single live later this week.

He’s one of the guest artists on this week’s American Idol results show Thursday night.
