Phillip Phillips, Season 12

Phillip’s ‘Gone, Gone, Gone’ will be Season 12’s farewell tune

Phillip Phillips’ “Home” got a huge boost from being named theme song for the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team during the Summer Olympics.

Now his second single has been selected as the official goodbye song for departing contestants on American Idol this season.

Phillip Phillips' latest single will serve as the Idol farewell song for Season 12.The title is fitting — “Gone, Gone, Gone” — if a bit rub-it-inish.

But the message of the song, pledging support for a loved one in a time of tribulation, makes it a good choice.

And the song could use the exposure; you won’t find it on Billboard’s Hot 100 this week.

“Home,” on the other hand, is still number 29, 35 weeks after its release and has sold more than 4 million copies, making it the most successful coronation song in Idol history.

Phillip will perform “Gone, Gone Gone” on the Thursday, March 14, elimination episode of Idol.

Bon Jovi will also perform during that results show.

And, don’t forget, Phillip will be performing at the Pullo Center at Penn State York in May. Head here for information.

Phillip recently released the video for his new single. In case you haven’t seen it, here it is.
