John Legend landed his first four-chair turn recipient of Season 21 as The Voice blind auditions continued Monday.
That singer was Brittany Bree, who enticed all the coaches to turn covering The Weeknd’s “Call Out My Name” in what she said was her first secular performance.
Meanwhile, Ariana Grande lured two of the night’s most intriguing artists to her team in Ryleigh Plank and Sophia Bromberg, both unique sounded pop singer-songwriters.
And The Voice baffled — or, more accurately, bungled — yet again Monday night.
We gpt full introductions to three singers who didn’t make the show and heard most of their auditions.
Meanwhile, the show montaged two singers who earned spots on Season 21.
As they say, “This is The Voice.” Logic be damned.
BEST OF THE NIGHT
Ryleigh Plank, 20, Fort Myers, Fla., “Anyone” by Demi Lovato: An excellent opening prompted a quick chair turn from Kelly Clarkson. And Ryleigh’s impassioned performance earned a turn from Ariana as well. Ariana said Ryleigh brought her to tears and called the performance “amazing” and said she thinks Ryleigh could “win this thing.” Kelly said she loves Ryleigh’s vibe. Ryleigh joined Team Ariana.
RUNNERS-UP
Brittany Bree, 26, Dallas, Texas, “Call Out My Name” by The Weeknd: After a sleepy opening, Brittany began belting the big notes and chairs started turning, specifically those of Kelly, Ariana and John. Blake joined them at the last second, giving Brittany a four-chair turn. Ariana called her “unbelievable.” John said Brittany’s voice just grabbed him. Kelly called her a great story teller and said if her voice isn’t in the finale “something is wrong.” Brittany joined Team Legend.
Sophia Bromberg, 16, San Francisco, Calif., “Heather” by Conan Gray: Sophia’s delicate vocals prompted near simultaneous chair turns from Kelly Clarkson, Ariana Grande and John Legend. She hit an incredible high note even after they had turned. Ariana said she has a unique voice. John called her performance riveting. Kelly called her performance “incredibly cool.” Sophia joined Team Ariana.
ALSO MADE THE SHOW
Jershika Maple, 24, Killeen, Texas, “Can You Stand the Rain” by New Edition: For most of the performance, it didn’t appear as though a coach would turn. Then Jershika hit an incredible glory note, prompting turns from John Legend and Kelly Clarkson. John complimented her on an electric performance. Kelly said she loves Jershika’s personality. Jershika opted to join Team Kelly.
Manny Keith, 31, Miami, Fla., “”Break My Heart” by Dua Lipa: Manny’s high-energy performance prompted a chair turn from Blake midway through. He wound up being the only coach to turn. Blake called Manny an incredible singer and said he loved his energy as a performer. Ariana expressed disappointment that she didn’t turn after learning that Manny’s a big fan of hers.
K.J. Jennings, 21, Austin, Texas, “Put Your Records On” by Corinne Bailey Rae: K.J. had barely started the song when she had Blake Shelton and John Legend facing in her direction. They wound up being the only turns in spite of an impressive ending. Blake said she has a cool voice and looks like s tar. John said her performance was charming and inviting. K.J. joined Team Legend.
Libianca, 20, Minneapolis, Minn., “Good Days” by SZA: Her performance sparked a quick chair turn from Ariana. Blake followed at the song’s midway point. Ariana said she’s obsessed by Libianca, loved her song choice and what she did with it. Loved the control in Libianca’s performance. Libianca joined Team Blake.
Wyatt Michael, 24, Fredericksburg, Va.: “Mack the Knife” by Bobby Darin: His fun performance sparked chair turned from Ariana Grande and Kelly Clarkson. Ariana said his performance made her smile and called his voice “so warm.” Kelly said he should have an open lane on the show. Wyatt joined Team Kelly.
More Montages (UGH!!!!)
Xavier Cornell, 17, Los Angeles, Calif., “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry: Kelly was the only chair turn. She predicted Xavier could be a dark horse in the competition.
Sabrina Dias, “Garota De Ipanema” by Antônio Carlos Jobim: John was the only chair turn. He said he liked the edge Sabrina brought to the performance.
