Quidachay, he explains to Voice Views, derives from the island of Guam it is a very traditional Guamanian/Chamorro last name.
“Being that I am born and raised in Sacramento, California, my last name was butchered my whole life and it still is,” he said.
“So when I started getting into music and posting covers on YouTube, I stuck with Shane Q and it’s been that way my whole musical career. It’s simple and easy to remember and no one has ever butchered it.”
But lots of folks might be remembering it. Kelly Clarkson predicted Shane will make it all the way to the Season 17 finale.
That came after Shane became just the third singer in Season 17 to turn all four coaches chairs, thanks to his blind audition cover of Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey.”
Here’s what Shane told Voice Views about his blind audition experience.
Voice Views: How did you wind up auditioning for The Voice Season 17 and what prompted you to do it?
Shane: I was contacted by the casting agency for a private audition, I wasn’t sure if I was going to do the audition, but I asked myself, ‘Why not? I’m 28 years old I have no commitments and nothing to lose, only things to gain, so let’s go for it.’ I wasn’t expecting to make it through, but I did, and here I am today.
Voice Views: Why did you choose “Tennessee Whiskey” for your audition song?
Shane: “Tennessee Whiskey” is def one of my favorite songs to listen to and to perform. I was very happy about my blind audition song choice because it gives me an opportunity to show off my full vocal abilities, highs, lows, power, runs, it shows it all. I am a soulful singer and I love all genres.
Voice Views: Why did you decide to join Team Kelly?
Shane: Kelly mentioned that I can sing any genre and I totally agree with that and so that is the main reason I chose her.
