Song by song grades for Team Nick on The Voice

0

Seventeen singers took the stage Monday night on The Voice.

By the end of the tomorrow night, only nine will remain.

The top vote-getter from each team will advance. Then each coach will save an artist.

Tuesday’s show will conclude with performances by the next highest vote-getter from each team competing or an instant save.

Who deserves to advance from Team Nick?

Here are my song by song grades.

Andrew Marshall (stolen in the knockout round), “Put Your Records On” by Corrine Bailey Rae — The wrong song choice, an odd arrangement and a very shaky vocal make this a 2:30 clip I won’t be watching again. Andrew showed off nice range at the start of the performance, but that wound up being the highlight. Grade: C–

Dana Monique (a Team Nick original), “Free Your Mind” by En Vogue — We’ve seen Dana perform four times, and there’s should be no doubt that she belongs in the Season 20 finals. That voice, that stage presence and that charisma. She should be the Season 20 favorite. Of course, Voice history is littered with R&B females who should have gone farther on the show than they did. Grade: A

Jose Figueroa Jr. (a Team Nick original), “Talking to the Moon” by Bruno Mars — I was loving Jose’s upbeat performances from other rounds so much, I thought he might be a Season 20 front-runner. Here, he showed things down and the result was nearly as impressive. Grade: C+

Rachel Mac (a Team Nick original), “Rainbow” by Rachel Mac — Let’s remember, this young lady — the youngest of The Voice contestants — was a one-chair turn. I won’t be surprised if she winds up in the finals. She looked so like a princess on stage, delivered a very pretty vocal and an impressive and emotional ending. Grade: B+

Devan Blake Jones (Nick’s rep in the 4-way knockout), “Shape of My Heart” by The Backstreet Boys — I was disappointed to see Savanna Woods didn’t win the four-way knockout. This performance confirmed my belief that she should have. That said, Devan’s proven he’s much better than he sounded here. This just was not a good example of what he can do vocally. Grade: D+
