Season 10, Song of the Day

Song of the Day: ‘My Only One’ featuring Kendra Chantelle

1

Kendra Chantelle is featured on a pre-Idol track recorded by Brennin and released in 2010.Kendra Chantelle fans have a right to be bummed after what happened last week on Idol.

Vocally, Kendra was among the most impressive of the Idol semifinalists.

But she won’t be on stage when the finals begin Wednesday night.

I’ve said it before: My guess is the judges sensed a certain lack of Idol spark in Kendra.

This is television after all, and the show needs characters (like Casey Abrams) as much as it needs singers.

But there’s nothing lacking about Kendra’s vocals.

If you need another reminder of that, check out this week’s Song of the Day, “My Only One.”

It’s actually a duet featuring Kendra and a Nashville singer-songwriter known as Brennin.

The song was released on Brennin’s Jan. 2010 CD “Bring Back Tomorrow.” As of now, it’s the only Kendra Chantelle vocal you can download from iTunes.

I expect that might change soon. Kendra has a batch of solid originals — “Fuel My Fire” is among my favorites.

You can go here to hear five of them.

Or you can visit Kendra’s MySpace here.

Now, here’s a live version of “My Only One.”

Editor’s Note: Each Monday I’ll feature a pre-Idol song by an Idol contestant that deserves a listen. Previous songs of the day: “I Walk” by Blue Eyed Grass, featuring Jayron Weaver, “She Runs” by Tim Halperin, “Icing” by Charity Vance and “Dreamin’ Alone” by Paul McDonald of the Hightide Blues/Grand Magnolias.
