Steve Knill’s time on The Voice Season 17 ended in the battle round.

He was paired with Jake Hoot for a Team Kelly Clarkson battle round match. Kelly had them perform Willie Nelson’s “Always on My Mind.”

Both received praise for their performances, but Kelly opted to advance Jake. Steve was eliminated when he wasn’t saved or stolen.

Here’s what the 37-year-old from San Francisco had to say about his Voice experience.

Voice Views: What do you consider your biggest takeaway / lesson learned from The Voice experience?

Steve: I learned that show biz is def a business … and you have to play to your audience! Or you will not be accepted!

Voice Views:@ The battles were filmed over the summer. What have you been doing musically since then and where are you hoping The Voice experience leads?

Steve: I have been trying to play gigs and work on performing with instruments! And hoping to possibly work on a cruise ship, or something similar!

Voice Views: Do you plan to release new music anytime soon? If so, can you tell me about that — what you’re planning, what fans can expert in terms of sound and the timetable for doing?

Steve: I am working with another songwriter, hoping to release some music by the end of the year!

Voice Views: Is there anything else you’d like to add about The Voice experience?

Steve: I was a little disappointed in the outcome of my battle, and thought I deserved to stay .. but overall the experience was fun!
