Three weeks after its release, Scotty’s EP of American Idol highlights is still number 20 on the Billboard 200, down just one spot from a week ago.

It’s also number six on the country chart, also down one spot. And his first single, “Love You This Big,” moves up two spots on the country singles chart to number 18.

What’s most impressive about the staying power of the EP is that it features mostly music available previously on iTunes. In other words, you have to figure the most avid Scotty fans already have at least some of this music.

If you’re wondering about the EPs from the other members of Idol’s top four from Season 10, each slipped between 30 and 40 spots on the Billboard 200 this week.

James Durbin checks in at 69, Haley Reinhart at 70 and Lauren Alaina at 74. Lauren’s single has also disappeared from the country singles chart.

Hmm. Fourth among the top four for Lauren. Funny, that’s where I figured she belonged on Idol. Or lower.

Among the other top Billboard news of the week:

* The Brad Paisley-Carrie Underwood duet of “Remind Me” cracks the top 10 on the county singles chart at number nine, a three-spot advance. Remember, that Jason Aldean-Kelly Clarkson duet made it all the way to number one.

* Speaking of which, Kelly and Jason had now advanced to number eight on the adult contemporary chart. And their single re-entered the Hot 100 at number 48 this week. Not too shabby, huh?

* David Cook’s sophomore CD, “This Loud Morning,” slips from 26 to 57 in its third week o the Billboard 200.

Scottie’s success is mainly due to heavy promotion from the first time he was on AI and as the designated AI winner he has been and is featured front and center during all planned promotions. As a James Durbin fan, I notice this shameless promotion and it is working…these are professional promoters!
However, I really think that as cute, young and unusual SMc’s voice is at 16, that there will likely be a different “success” story when his tween teens age a bit or with their fickle hearts will be won with some other “cute boy” promotion. Now on the other side of the spectrum, James Durbin has such a god given gift of vocal range, rhythm, versatility of ability to sing anything!!! and his performances are expressions of feeling from his spirit, we Durbinators and his many present and future fans worldwide will be gifted with many amazing albums and concerts. I can hardly wait for the first James Durbin album and concert.

I know not all of Scotty’s fans are teens. I for one am not. It says alot that his idol music has been available on i tunes and that he has high Album sales, and had audiences standing both on idol and the tour everytime he sings. I don’t think this is a passing thing. Teens, mother’s grandmothers and many inbtween are fans.

Interesting thought by author. I also would have placed Lauren at 4 0f 4. If I had 20 choices, I’d put her at 20. I’m hoping she disappears off charts entirely until she grows up.
