And the gamble paid off, big time.
As of noon eastern time, when voting closed, the song was number nine on the iTunes singles chart, making it the best-performing cover tune from Monday’s show.
In fact, Sundance became the first Season 11 contestant to land in bonus points territory. Any artist landing in the Top 10 on iTunes has their downloads multiplied by five when it comes time to determine who stays and who might go during Tuesday’s results show.
Other familiar names at the top of The Voice iTunes rankings include Billy Gilman and We McDonald, who have to be considered two of the show’s front-runners at this point.
On the other end of the rankings … well, Ali Caldwell and Christian Cuevas might be a bit nervous tomorrow night.
Ten of the 11 songs from Monday’s show had charted as of midnight. Ali’s cover of “9 to 5” was the lone exception. And Christian was at number 114 on iTunes, more than 30 spots behind the ninth most popular song.
Meanwhile, Aaron Gibson, who needed a Twitter save to survive last week, bounced back strong. He landed at number 39, fourth best of the week, with his version of “Hurt.”
Here are the rankings when voting closed, with each song’s performance on the genre charts listed below.
Five singles cracked the Top 10 on genre charts. Sundance again led the way, landing at number one on the iTunes country singles chart.
