Taylor Phelan advances in tough Team Pharrell battle on The Voice

0

The battle rounds on The Voice haven’t been overly kind to singers who turned four chairs during the blind auditions.

In fact, three four-chair turn recipients were eliminated this week. Taylor Phelan, of Team Pharrell Williams, avoided that fate, but he had to overcome an outstanding performance by teammate Jordy Searcy to do it.

The singers were asked to perform The Scripts “Breakeven” and wound up turning in one of the best performances of week one of the battles. When the dust settled, Pharrell said he thinks Taylor has what it takes to win the show.

During a conference call with the media, Taylor said a unique piece of advice from Alicia Keys helped when he was struggling to hit a high note in that song.

“Alicia made a comment — she told me that I should push down on my stomach like I needed to poop (to hit that note),” he said. “That was actually helpful for me. We all poop. We know where to push down to make that happen.”
