Here’s a look at Team Kelly Clarkson entering Monday’s live playoffs on The Voice.
Two singers advance this week based on fan voting. A third will be saved by Kelly.
Then the remaining highest vote-getter will have a chance to compete for the 13th spot in the Season 17 finals.
Jake Hoot: The 30-year-old from Cookeville, Tenn., performed “When It Rains It Pours” by Luke Combs, turning just Kelly’s chair. He won is battle round match with Steve Knill; they sang “Always on My Mind.” He sang “Cover Me Up” to win his knockout with Melinda Rodriguez.
Max Boyle: The 23-year-old from Toledo, Ohio, auditioned with Ed Sheeran’s “Wayfaring Stranger,” turning two chairs. He won his battle with Matt New; they sang “Let Me Love You.” Then he lost a Team Legend knockout round match to Katie Kadan, but was stolen by Kelly following a performance of “When the Party’s Over” by Billie Eilish.
Damali: The 16-year-old from Norwalk, Calif., performed “Ocean Eyes” by Billie Eilish and turned just Kelly’s chair in the blinds. She won her battle round match with Brooke Stephenson; they performed “Set Fire to the Rain.” She then won her knockout round match with fellow teen Gracee Shriver by singing “Sober” by Demi Lovato.
Hello Sunday: Chelsea and Myla, both 14, turned just Kelly’s chair in the blinds, singing Keala Settle’s “This is Me.” They won a battle round match with Lauren Hall; they performed “Wrecking Ball.” Then they performed “Almost Is Never Enough” to win a knockout round match with Alex Guthrie.
Shane Q: The 28-year-old from Sacramento, Calif., sang “Tennessee Whiskey” in the blinds and turned four chairs. He won his battle round match with Melinda Rodriguez; they performed “Too Good at Goodbyes.” Then he performed “In Case You Didn’t Know” to win a knockout round match with Kiara Brown.
Prediction: Remarkably, Team Kelly still features three contestants who turned just one chair in the blinds, a testament to the potential shown by Damali and Hello Sunday. But my hunch is that the artists who advance will include Shane Q and his stellar vocals and Max Boyle, who turned in one of the best knockout round performances we saw. As for Jake Hoot, he finds himself all alone in the male country lane. Based on his performance so far, he’s a likely member of the Top 4. He’s been that solid.
