From an awards standpoint, Wednesday night’s CMAs were a bust for American Idol fans.
Carrie Underwood failed to win in either of the categories she was nominated — album of the year and female vocalist of the year — thanks to Miranda Lambert.
But, hey, we got to hear Carrie perform “Songs Like This” and “Mama’s Song” from her “Play On” album.
We got to hear Kelly Clarkson sing country music and sound great doing it during her “Don’t You Want to Stay” duet with Jason Aldean.
In addition to presenting an award, Kellie Pickler apparently got to flash her engagement ring.
And even the commercial breaks brought Idol news — Carrie will star on a special edition of Extreme Home Makeover Sunday night and Kellie will appear on a country music Christmas special Nov. 29.
And we got to hear a snippet of the new song Carrie recorded for the next Chronicles of Narnia film.
When it came to awards, Miranda ruled supreme, snagging four — the two mentioned above plus song of the year and video of the year, both for “The House That Built Me.” And anyone who thinks she wasn’t deserving clearly hasn’t listened to her music.
About the only award she didn’t win was entertainer of the year, which went to Brad Paisley, Carrie’s co-host for the ceremony.
Other double winners included Miranda’s fiance Blake Shelton, named male vocalist of the year; and Lady Antebellum.
Here’s the complete list of award winners, followed by lots of photos, with more likely to be added Thursday.

Single of the Year: Lady Antebellum for “Need You Now.”
