Editor’s Note: See the bottom of the blog for the just-provided list of winners.
It’s time for the American Country Awards, FOX’s new awards show, hosted by Trace Adkins.
If you’ve lost track among all the recent awards shows, we’ll be watching to see how Danny Gokey, Kellie Pickler and Carrie Underwood do tonight.
Carrie’s nominated for six of these new awards, Danny and Kellie for one apiece.
And the firt award to be presented tonight is Breakthrough Artist of the Year, the category in which Danny is nominated. And the winner is Easton Corbin. And we just heard that Easton also won the best single and best video by a new artist. Hmm, I was rooting for “Giddy On Up” by Laura Bell Bundy in the latter category. Oh, well.
Tonight’s show is clearly going to be heavy on performances, short on passing out awards. Which is fine. Less talk, more music. Idol should take note.
Except it leaves one wondering about all those awards Carrie Underwood is nominated for.
On the other hand, maybe the Idol producers are on hand tonight. I mean, we’ve lost audio, we’ve had premature jumps to commercials, and Trace Adkins has warned us countless times that the show is running short of time.
OK, finally, Carrie time.
She wins Artist of the Year. She, in fact, wins all six awards for which she was nominated.
Congrats, Carrie.
For Artist of the Year, she beat out four other nominees — Miranda Lambert, Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift and the Zac Brown Band.
Her other awards were for Female Artist of the Year, Tour of the Year, Album of the Year (for “Play On”), Female Single of the Year and Female Video of the Year. The last two were for “Cowboy Casanova.”
