American Idol officially kicks off Season 23 Sunday night at 8 p.m. on ABC.

Idol aired a brief sneak peek last Sunday following the Oscars.

On that episode, three singers — Thunderstorm Artis, Amanda Barise and Sonny Tennet earned unanimous golden tickets to Hollywood.

That means new judge Carrie Underwood hasn’t had to say “no” to anyone yet, something she’s admitted is difficult for her.

That’s likely to change Sunday when viewers are introduced to lots more Season 23 hopefuls.

Here are some of the contestants we’ll meet Sunday night. Follow the links for more information about each of the singers, including details about music they’re already released.

I was thinking about watching it, just to see how Carrie does, but I, unfortunately, have a conflict with another show on Sunday nights, starting at the end of March.

Isn’t it unfair to give so much exposure to Thunderstorm Artis, since he placed third on “The Voice” and already has a fanbase?

I had the same issue with We Ani McDonald, as well.

I’m wondering if, after all these years, the singing shows are struggling to find enough true talent. American Idol seems to have become international Idol. And the line between who’s a true amateur and who’s too pro seems to have blurred. Coming up Sunday: Victor Solomon, who also made the finals on The Voice. And a gal who’s releasing music through Atlantic Records and has more Spotify streams than nearly any Idol finalist in the ABC era.

You have made a good point.

Both Dexter Roberts and Jeremy Rosado made the finals on “Idol” yet each were allowed to compete on “The Voice.”
