The Alicia Keys-Miley Cyrus era begins tonight on The Voice.
And I’m sure the two new female coaches will steal much of the focus on tonight’s sneak peek at Season 11.
But apparently we’ll also get to meet at least two of the Season 11 contestants. And that’s far and away my favorite aspect of The Voice: being introduced to talented new artists.
Want to know what past contestants are up to? Head here for a look at the music they’ve released so far in 2016.
Hey, and the singing begins immediately as a young woman launches into an excellent cover of “Feeling Good,” starting off a capella, delivering an amazing ending with a big glory note and getting all four coaches to turn around in the process.
The singer turns out to be a 17-year old named We McDonald. No idea if I spelled her first name correctly. We says she was bullied as a youngster. All four coaches are lobbying hard to get her on their team. We opts to join Team Alicia.
Up next is another 17-year-old, Darby Walker, who will be singing “Stand By Me.” She has a unique tone and earns an early chair turn from Miley. Darby hasn’t finished the first run-through of the chorus and Alicia turns around as well. By the end of the song, Blake has joined them as well, giving Darby a three-chair turn.
Miley, draped in big pick and organge flowers joins Darby on stage and joins Darby in a version of Jolene. She quickly turns the performance into a joke. Alicia compliments Darby on a gorgeous tone. Darby says she prefers indie alternative music. Now Darby and Alicia are singing “No One” together.
And Darby, for some reason, joins Team Miley. She says she feels her voice is similar to Miley’s so she’ll be a good match as coach.
That’s apparently it folks. We get to meet — sort of — two singers from Season 11, though we missed out on the extended intro packages we normally get that give us a glimpse into their background.
Now the coaches will sing “Dream On” and we’ll have to wait a month for Season 11 to continue.
