The Voice proves all those montages never should have happened

Well, well, imagine that.

The Voice seems hellbent to prove that Page Mackenzie and I were correct.

Page criticized The Voice a couple weeks ago for montaging her performances in both the battle round and knockouts.

I had already written that The Voice montages were completely unnecessary and a sign that producers don’t give a crap about all the effort and time contestants spend preparing for those performances.

So what does The Voice turn around and do?

They’ve scheduled a two-hour recap show to air Monday night.

Look, montages might be necessary when a show doesn’t have enough airtime to show all the performances.

And The Voice has occasionally swelled its cast of singers to 56 or 64, making montages a bit more acceptable. Though I’d argue that in those cases, the show could still put those full performances on other sites, like YouTube.

On this season of The Voice, there was absolutely no excuse to montage anyone.

Let’s review.

In the blinds, The Voice montaged three singers who earned spots on Season 27 — Kameron Jaso, Nell Simmons and Aaron Rizzo.

BUT the show also featured and aired full auditions for nine singers who didn’t make the show.

Bottom line: Cut out three of those non-chair turners and all of the Season 27 cast members would have had their auditions air.

In the battles, The Voice montaged six matches, as follows.

Team Kelsea: Page Mackenzie vs. Robert Hunter

Team Kelsea: Jessica Manalo vs. Dan Kiernan

Team Legend: Jacquelyn George vs. Jordan Allen

Team Michael: Aaron Rizzo vs. Carlos Santiago

Team Michael: Kameron Jaso vs. Naomi Soleil

Team Adam: Grace Miller-Moody vs. Tori Templet

Guess how many battle round matches The Voice typically airs in a two-hour show? Six. Just perfect for that useless two-hour clip show The Voice plans to air Monday. Push the start of the knockouts back a week, and all the performances air.

In the knockouts, the only match montaged was Page Mackenzie’s with Alanna Lynise. Heck, Page’s name wasn’t even mentioned.

The very next week, The Voice ran a one-hour recap show, then one hour of new performances.

And the show couldn’t find time to air Page and Alanna?

I mean, what the hell? It simply defies logic. And talk about a slap in the face to all the artists whose performances landed on the editing room floor.

You’ll also notice that Page wasn’t the only victim of a double montage. Kameron Jaso didn’t have a performance air until Monday’s knockout round episode. Aaron Rizzo was montaged in the blinds and the battles and left the show without a single performance airing.

Oh, well, congrats Page. The Voice has proven us correct. I guess there’s a bit of satisfaction in that.

Of course, I’d be happier if The Voice didn’t disrespect its contestants in the first place.
