The Voice quarterfinals: 4 advance, 2 more head home

Fess up. How many of you tuned in to The Voice tonight to catch that glimpse of the new Justin Bieber video?

Not fessing up.

OK, how many of you tuned in tonight hoping Christina Aguilera would dress like a stripper again?

Poor Christina had a rough night on Monday.

The viewers who weren’t bashing her for that bizarre group performance were ticked off at her for kicking fan favorite Jesse Campbell off her team.

And those weren’t even her worst sins of the night.

I want to know how she could possibly take the best team in the competition and not coax a single memorable performance from them.

Watching whom Christina jettisons next — Lindsey Pavao, Chris Mann or Ashley De La Rosa — might offer the only suspense this evening.

One will be voted through by fans; the others will have to sing for a save. I’ll be rooting for Lindsey and Ashley.

Meanwhile, there should be no suspense over on Team Blake.

As I reported earlier today, Jermaine Paul and RaeLynn had the most popular performances in terms of iTunes downloads last night, checking in at number 38 and 40, respectively on the singles chart.

Poor Erin Willett didn’t crack the top 200 with that tortured version of Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain.”

Now whom do you think Blake should cut loose?

The results …

Team Christina:   Chris Mann is the top vote-getter on Team Christina.  That means Ashley or Lindsey goes home.  This show keeps getting worse and worse.

Team Blake:   Jermaine Paul is the top vote-getter on Team Blake.  Well, that one makes sense.  That means RaeLynn or Erin Willett goes home.

Save-me performances …

Ashley De La Rosa:   She’ll take on “You and I.”  She’s in trouble from the world go.  Remember, we just heard Elise Testone slay this song last week on Idol, with a whole lot more flair than Ashley showed in pretty much a straight- out belting of the popular Gaga tune.  Where oh where did the Ashley from two weeks ago go?  Grade: C-.

Lindsey Pavao:  She’ll sing “Please Don’t Go.”  Well there’s a whole lot more emotion, passion and subtlety to this performance, isn’t there?  No doubt whom Christina should save, regardless of what Blake and Adam say.  Yep, Christina, you’d better save Lindsey.  She’s by far the more unique vocalist.  Grade: B

Christina saves Lindsey.  Ashley De La Rosa heads home.

Erin Willett:  She’ll sing “Proud Mary,” and this is immediately much, much better than last night.  OK, she belted that out quite well.  But I still can’t get past last night’s very, very bad version of Adele.  Grade: B.

RaeLynn:  She’ll sing “If I Die Young.”  Wise, move, RaeLynn.  Follow up “Proud Mary” with a tune filled with emotion.  Though I’m not sure you’re conveying that emotion all that well.  On the other hand, this is one of RaeLynn’s better vocals.  Perhaps slightly better than Erin.  Grade: B+

And Blake saves Erin.  RaeLynn heads home on The Voice.

So, Erin Willett and Jermaine Paul advance on Team Blake.

And Chris Mann and Lindsey Pavao advance on Team Christina.

Up next week: Team Adam and Team Cee Lo.

Lyndsey is weird, not unique. She can’t sing. Regardless, sending Jesse home was idiotic and Christina’s team will be coming in 4th.

Jesse’s votes will not be going to Lyndsey or Chris. Christina just comes off as a completely unlikable hexenbeist.
