When people talk about a female contestant who left American Idol too soon in Season 10, they’re typically talking about Pia Toscano.
I’ve always thought there was a second gal eliminated way too early — Ashthon Jones.
Ashthon, 26, of Tennessee, showed up on the Idol stage sounding and looking like a star.
And her resume included a 2008 EP titled “Introducing Ashthon Jones” that featured an impressive dance single, “Salsa, Salsa.”
But she got very little screen time prior to the voting rounds, and it showed.
She needed a wild card save to make the finals, then was voted out in the first round.
Well, now she’s back with a first post-Idol single, a toe-tapping jazz-influenced tune called “Lookout.”
Ashthon classifies the song as urban/R&B — New Jack Swing on CD Baby, where you can get the single now.
She says it’ll be available on iTunes next week.
And there’s more music to come this summer. She’s planning an album titled “Goodbye Genre.”
I couldn’t find video of Ashthon performing “Lookout,” but here she is singing another of her new songs on WZTV FOX 17 earlier this year.
