Season 2 Finals, The Voice

Tony Lucca winning the download war on The Voice

The song might not have thrilled Christina Aguilera, but it apparently struck a chord with an awful lot of viewers of The Voice.

Tony Lucca’s folk-style version of  Jay-Z’s “99 Problems” was the third-most downloaded single on iTunes as of 2 p.m.

Remember, downloading the singles is one of five means of voting on The Voice.

So how does Tony’s performance compare to his fellow finalists?

Here’s how …

  • Juliet Simms checks in at number 9 with “Freebird.”
  • Chris Mann checks in at number 12 with “You Raise Me Up.”
  • Jermaine Paul checks in at number 13 with “I Believe I Can Fly.”

Folks, that’s as tightly bunched as the performances have been all season.

And I hadn’t seen anyone in the top 10 until last week when Juliet’s version of “It’s a Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World” turned the trick.

As of 2 p.m., by the way, that song was still number 40 on iTunes.  Juliet’s version of “Roxanne” from more than a month ago was number 64.

But fans aren’t nearly as interested in her fun-filled “Born to Be Wild” duet with Cee Lo Green.

The evidence …

  • The duet of “Yesterday” by Tony Lucca and Adam Levine is number five.
  • The duet of “The Prayer” by Chris Mann and Christina Aguilera is number eight.
  • The duet of “Soul Man” by Jermaine Paul and Blake Shelton is number 25.
  • The duet of “Born to Be Wild” … number 79.  Ouch.

Check back tonight at 9 p.m.  I’ll be live blogging throughout The Voice results show.
