Here’s a bit of long-awaited news for fans baffled by the too-early exit of talented twin sisters Andi & Alex on Season 9 of The Voice.
The young ladies from Green Bay announced Wednesday that they will release their debut EP on Aug. 16. It’ll be called “Is Everything OK?”
But it won’t be an Andi & Alex release. The twins are now performing under a new name: Queen Hilma.
They explain on Facebook: In anticipation of releasing their debut EP (produced by Howard Redekopp) and unveiling their new sound, the girls decided to change their name to Queen Hilma. Hilma is their grandmother’s name who unfortunately passed away last year.
“She was a sassy lady but in the most amazing way ever. We love and miss her dearly so we thought what better way to pay homage?”
Andi and Alex were 23 when they auditioned for Season 9 and turned four chairs with their cover of Dido’s “Thank You.”
It turned out to be the most successful blind audition song on iTunes from that season. And the twins repeated that feat following their battle round match with Chance Pena when they collaborated on “Wherever You Will Go.”
That’s right folks. In the first two rounds of Season 9, the twins did better on the iTunes charts than Jordan Smith, Season 9’s eventual champ. Yet, inexplicably, they were eliminated in the knockout round, then not invited back as comeback artists.
But they’ve been busy playing shows since, including performances earlier this month with Season 8 champ Sawyer Fredericks and a reunion show of sorts with Chance Pena.
More shows are scheduled, including their first ever in Philly. That’s set for 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28 at Coda. Tickets start at $15 and there’s a VIP Meet and Greet option for $30.
To keep up with Queen Hilma, you can also follow the twins through their website. On Twitter, they’re still
@Andi_and_Alex.
I, for one, can’t wait to hear their new music. Here’s a sample, from an acoustic show earlier this summer in Green Bay.
