American Idol Top 5: Grading the singers
We’re down to just ladies on American Idol. And like I said in my rankings blog, who would have ever thought that would happen? Even in what’s supposed to be a girl’s year on the show.

American Idol just announced its summer tour dates. And folks from this area should circle Aug. 24 on their calendars.
His audition: Kris Thomas, 27, of Memphis, Tenn., auditioned with Whitney Houston’s “Saving All My Love for You.” Shakira turned around early in his performance. The other three judges stayed put, then expressed shock to discover it was a guy singing the song.
Her audition: Monique Abbadie, 20, Miami, Fla., auditioned with Shakira’s “Loca,” but the first judge to turn around was a surprise — Blake Shelton. Before Monique finished singing, all four coaches were facing her. Everyone agreed Monique and Shakira would be the perfect match, and that’s who Monique selected as her coach.
On night one of the battle rounds, only three singers went home. That’s because Blake came to the rescue of Taylor Beckham while Shakira snagged Sasha Allen and Karina Iglesias after they lost battle rounds.
Her audition: By the time Jessica Childress, 26, of Lancaster, Calif., took the stage, only one spot remained on the teams for Season 4. She snagged it by getting Usher to turn his chair for her robust version of “Marry Me.” From the looks on the other judges’ faces, you could tell some of them…
Her audition: Jacqui Sandell, 24, of Oakland, N.J., sang Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” and got Blake Shelton and Usher to turn around quickly. The other judges never did turn around. Jacqui chose to join Team Blake.
Check out that photo below. Did you ever think you’d see that on American Idol? A final five consisting solely of females?
The teams are all set. Now it’s time to start whittling them down on The Voice. The battles begin tonight and, by the end of tomorrow night, as many as 12 of the singers might be out of the competition.
His audition: Luke Edgemon, 24, of Fayetteville, N.C., sang Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” in his audition. By that point, Blake and Adam had already filled their teams. But he got both of the other coaches to turn around, then picked Team Shakira.
Luck of the Draw
