The judges whiff on song choices for the final three

For the past two weeks, certain members of the American Idol judging panel have berated Haley Reinhart about her song choices.

So, this week, the judges got to pick one song for each member of the final three to sing on Wednesday’s show.

And in keeping with their less-than-superlative performance in season 10, the judges whiffed.

They whiffed big time.

Let’s examine how badly they whiffed.

First up, Lauren Alaina. She’s 16. She should usually be singing something young and fun. At least I think that’s when she’s at her best.

On Wednesday, Lauren gets to sing “I Hope You Dance,” the 2000 hit from Lee Ann Womack.

Lee Ann was 33 when she recorded the song. The video features her singing, a mother figure of sorts, as she watches two young girls at play.

Lauren is a high school sophomore. A bit young to be handing out worldly advice. And the song’s not young and fun.

But the sad fact is, Lauren probably got the best of these song choices.

Strike one for the judges.

Scotty McCreery performs last week on American Idol. (FOX Photo)Next up, Scotty McCreery. Ryan Seacrest calls him Scotty the Body for no good reason. We could call him Scotty the Serious for one very good reason.

He has performed an awful lot of ballads on American Idol Season 10, some bordering on boring.

Again, young and fun is what is called for Wednesday.

The judges serve up Kenny Rogers’ “She Believes in Me.” About a singer trying desperately to make a difference with the songs he plays on his “old guitar” for the woman who’s stood by him for so long.

Hmm, Scotty’s all of 17. Exactly which part of this song is he supposed to relate to.

Oh, and yet another ballad.

Strike two for the judges.

Believe it or not, it gets worse.

Poor Haley Reinhart. Are the judges trying to get even?

I mean, what other explanation could there be for their song selection for her: Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know.”

Pick hit records people are going to go crazy over, Jennifer advises..

Of all the songs out there, all the songs Haley could have performed to display that soulful voice, the judges pick “You Oughta Know”?

With lyrics in the first and second verses that Haley won’t ever be allowed to sing on this squeaky clean show?

Really? That’s what the judges picked?

Yep.

Strike three.

Go get ’em, Haley. Growl a little.

Because if you pull this off, you deserve to be the American Idol.

The judges song choices are really bad.
The worst is the one they picked for Haley. Why, can someone tell us why they picked so bad. What are they thinking?

Why do the judges hate Haley so much?

American Idol winner is pre-determined! Scotty will be handed the 19 contract as AI who are raking in millions off of Carrie Underwood, are determined to mine riches with Scotty in Nashville too!

This song assignment is intentionally directed towards undermining Haley Reinhart by turning off her voting fandom! Morrissette’s vulgar and angry anthem is so ultra diversified, that judges Jackson and Lopez will easily find ways to mis-interpret Haley’s version. The lyric’s are not suitable for prime time family viewing and if Haley changes the lyrics, she will be heavily criticized by the judges. If she leans towards the risque, on tour versions performed by Beyonce or Brittney, the performance should be then be censored! This is an abomination that a young and most certainly naive woman such as Haley be forced into singing words (angry words at that) of oral and other sexual (mis)conduct in a family viewing scenario to millions of television viewers.

Haley should stand up for herself once again, onlt this time, to refuse this song requirement! In the name of fairness, she should have also been assigned a song that fit’s her genre, as were the two country singers she’s competing against. Something like Janis’ “Little Girl Blue” or something similar? If the judges assigned karaoke type simple songs that have no range challenges for the other two, why does AI force “You Oughtta Know” on Miss Reinhart?

    You Oughtta Know!!

I actually think “you oughta now” is a good choice. its right up haley’s alley. Crystal performed it at last years finale, and Beyonce performed it at the Grammys.
I think its the other two that got the short end of the stick

The judges are out to get Haley. Lauren flubs her songs and they coo and go on how she is awesome. Haley flubs the crappy song that the judges picked for her and they are all over her. Hypocrite much????
    I think Haley should win!!!

American Idol has t their minds–inviting singers that are vulgar who wear shoes with penis heels and try their best to corrupt 16 and 17 year olds with their vulgar languange and helping them say that they are “evil” with ease. No class at all. Worse still, the two judges (hmmmmm… could there be some jealousy involved here?) ask Haley to sing a song with disgusting lyrics and then top it all off with Nicole and whoever the male singer was singing vulgar lyrics about sex. (I forwarded through the rest of it after I heard the lyrics and saw her dance movements…I knew where this was going after having watched Gaga act like a stripper on the piano this season…that was disgusting and over the top for me. How sad for her that she feels the need to act so disgusting. Must not be confident in her music abilities…) The producer must have lost his mind… and even more disappointing…How can you judges sit up there and make references to God and then condone and ENCOURAGE this type of behavior? American Idol has just lost my vote. Ruined a show that I could watch with my family. Losers. Corrupters of the innocent.

The judges, Randy especially, kept saying it is all about great song choices. Well when they had their chance they really did not do very well. They especially gave Haley a really inappropriate and tough song to sing in the final 3.Do you all want to guess why?

PS. I do not fault Steven. He has been honest and never was unkind to anyone, just helpful and uplifting.

Sorry, one little tidbit more. I have listened and bought most of Haley’s tunes on Itunes. They are great and they are all far superior to Jennifer Lopez’s new record “On the Floor”. Did anyone listen to it. I thought it was bad. I am amazed that anyone bought it. I never would. In fact I never bought any of her songs. Do I think Haley can sing much better. Oh Yeah! Did Jennifer think that to and did she start getting jealous. Could be.
