His audition: Max Chambers, 14, of Shreveport, La., performed “I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5: It was immediately obvious that he was a younger auditioner. But he showed really great stage presence to go along with a joyful vocal. His vocal enticed chair turns from Michael Buble and Reba McEntire. Reba pitched the fact that she’s not just a country coach. Michael complimented him for his pitch and performance and for the joy he brought into the room. Max opted to join Team Buble.

Here’s more about Max:

* He’s 14 years old and was a student at Caddo Middle Magnet School in Shreveport, La., when he got his first big professional break.

* That was in September 20203 when, at age 12, he landed the role of Little Michael in the Broadway show “MJ the Musical,” which recounts the career of Michael Jackson up until the release of his “Dangerous” album.

* Max performed with the show through June 2024. “What an incredible journey with amazing people!” Max wrote on social media. “The best part of any experience is to leave better than you came … I am definitely better because of this experience! One minute I was at home living life and the next minute I was on Broadway! WOW!”

* Max’s talent had drawn attention even before that show. Earlier in 2023, he had earned Best in Show and People’s Choice awards at a Shreveport talent competition called Artbreak’s Got Talent. He performed “Who’s Loving You” by The Jackson 5.

* In an interview with KTAL Channel 6, Max said he auditioned for the role in MJ the Musical about two months after winning Artbreak. He submitted a video audition, then had a zoom interview, then an in-person audition. He admitted that he felt a bit “apprehensive” about that, but now feels like he’s part of Michael Jackson’s legacy.

* And since the Broadway show, he has made his debut at 54 Below in New York during a Gospel Brunch and been part of the children’s ensemble for the “Wicked” soundtrack.
