His audition: Bryant Thomas, 26, Mobile, Ala., “Against All Odds” by Phil Collins: This guy has a great voice, filled with grit. Carrie Underwood calls his voice outrageous. Lionel Richie says he has star power vocals. Luke Bryan is blown away as well. He gets three yeses. And then drops to his knee to propose to girlfriend Alyona. She gives Bryant a fourth “yes” for the night.

* First off, it’s a good thing Bryant proposed to Alyona, because breaking up with her at some point sure wasn’t an option.

* Head to the Bryant Thomas Band Instagram or TikTok. You won’t find a single image of Bryant. You will find dozens of videos of his girlfriend getting ready to go somewhere while Bryant sings impressively from the shower or somewhere nearby.

* The strategy has worked. Bryant has more than 75,000 followers and 4.4 million likes on his TikTok. And more than 21,000 followers on Instagram.

* Of course, fine raspy vocals help. He calls his music a blend of his southern roots, country storytelling, the soulful essence of blues, rock and roll energy and “the smooth sophistication of jazz and big brass.”

* About the latter: Bryant plays trombone and began incorporating trombone solos into his shows and songs about three years ago.

* And one of his favorite artists to cover is Taylor Swift. In fact, his cover of Taylor’s “Champagne Problems” is easily his most popular on TikTok with more than 100,000 streams. That cover dropped in October. It’s truly an impressive cover, showing off the grit in Bryant’s vocals. But even the cover only shows the back of Bryant’s head.

* He has other music out, including “Settle Down” from 2025 and “Alabama Moonshine” from 2024. And he’s a featured vocalist on “Exile,” a November Taylor Swift cover from young singer-songwriter Grace Luv. It’s also superb.

* Bryant was born, raised and began his music career in Mobile, Alabama. He’s now based in Palm Beach County, Fla.
