Eva Luna Smith of American Idol Season 24
Idol returns to ABC on Monday, Jan. 26 with the judging trio of Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood and Lionel Richie.
Here’s more about Eva:
* She’s 23, was born in Denmark, lives in Long Beach, Ca., and sings in Danish and English.
* And as front woman for Fine Folk, an eight-piece folk, rock and Americana band, she has lots of released music you can check out.
* Eva and Fine Folk released an album called “In the Spirt of the Rain” in 2024 and an EP called “Songs from Patricia Lee” last January. The latter includes four songs, including the wonderfully folksy “Sun Set Again” and a tune in Danish that I couldn’t understand, but sounds great. Check out a snippet of “Sun Set Again” below.
* In October, Eva announced she finished tracking work on a new album she plans to release sometime this year. She has a single called “Som Små” available for pre-order now on streaming sites.
* For a long time, she released music as Eva Loona Smith, and you’ll still have to use that spelling to find some of her music.
* She switched back to the real spelling of her middle name — Luna — in December saying “it feels a lot more proud to me to have my actual name online.” Search Eva Luna Smith and you’ll now find most of her music.
* Eva graduated from California State University, Los Angeles last spring. You can check out her cover of Alicia Keys’ “A Woman’s Work” from her senior recital on her Instagram. Eva posted a 32-minute clip from that recital to YouTube.
* In an interview with Voyage LA, Eva said she began writing “little songs” after her uncle gave her a guitar when she was about 8. She wrote most of her first album, TEA (Teach Everyone Art) following a 2021 visit to Paisley Park in Minnesota, where Prince made most of his music.
* She announced her Idol audition in in mid-January writing, “Wowowow, I never thought I’d be typing these words … Baby Eva (and all of her showmanship haha) would be very proud! I owe all of this to my family for believing in me.”
* And in her YouTube bio, Eva describes herself as “an artist who believes the most valuable thing one could accomplish in this world is creating art with others in order to instill a message of unity within.”
