Yes, the American Idol results show will last two hours this evening.
But before you groan too loudly, Idol fans, think back to last year.
If Idol follows the same format in Season 11, it could be one of the most dramatic shows of the season.
Last year’s results/wild card show took a while to get started with all the normal Idol recaps, of course.
And it included an in-show commercial for a Jennifer Lopez video.
But then Ryan got down to the business of naming the top five girls and guys who advanced.
And the show got better in the wild card portion.
The judges didn’t just make three wild card selections.
They picked six performers to sing again — Ashthon Jones, Naima Adedapo, Kendra Chantelle, Robbie Rosen, Jovanny Barreto and Stefano Langone.
And with their Idol lives on the line, under the most pressure-packed of circumstances they turned in some very solid performances.
I remember being particularly impressed with Ashthon and Stefano, both of whom made the finals based on that performance.
Naima got the third wild card spot. Now all three are working on albums we’re likely to hear before the end of the year.
It turned out to be one of the best format changes Idol made in Season 10.
