American Idols spent a lot of time in the recording studio and a lot of time in front of a camera in 2009.
To go along with the 20 or so albums from former Idol contestants, I counted no fewer than 28 video releases in 2009.
Links to all of those videos are provided below.
So is my list of the five best Idol videos of 2009 as Idol Chatter continues its look at the best and worst of American Idol in the past year.
Yesterday’s blog looked at the best and worst Idol albums of 2009. Tomorrow, the best of the rest — a look at top songs from the Idols you might have overlooked because they haven’t been released as singles … at least not yet.
Now, the top videos of 2009. Disagree? Feel free to comment below.
And if I missed any, please let me know. I’d like the list to be as complete as possible.
5. “Cowboy Casanova,” Carrie Underwood
I can’t imagine what Carrie Underwood’s wardrobe looks like. Remember that giant red dress from the ACM awards? I counted five costume changes in this video. Which, by the way, spent seven weeks at number one on CMT’s video countdown. The song was a crossover hit. By the way, I read somewhere Carrie’s engagement ring cost $150,000.
4. “Come Back to Me,” David Cook
David Cook walks backwards through the woods and through a crowded Los Angeles International Airport as he bemoans the departure of a beloved girlfriend. Hey, the video-in-reverse effect isn’t all that unique, but David gets kudos for a great song and for learning to sing it backwards. His video girlfriend, by the way, is played by Sarah Roemer (starred in Disturbia (2007).
3. “S.O.S. (Let the Music Play),” by Jordin Sparks
Wow, look at Jordin. “I’m really stepping out of my comfort zone with this video,” the season six champ says. Well, she never looked better. And check out the fingernails at the 2:12 mark. The song failed to score as a single, but it made it all the way to the top of Billboard’s club songs chart.
2. “The Best Days of Your Life,” Kellie Pickler
Kellie’s at her best when she’s having fun, and she appears to be having lots of fun in this video, featuring a cameo by gal pal Taylor Swift. I counted two closeups of Kellie’s shoes. Low-life boyfriends make for great videos, huh? Note: No ex-boyfriends were harmed in the filming of this video.
1. “My Life Would Suck Without You,” Kelly Clarkson
After the bleaker “My December,” Kelly Clarkson wanted a bright, fun appearance to her new album. The attitude extended to the video for “My Life Would Suck Without You,” during which Kelly playfully spats with video boyfriendHouston Rhines . Note: No goldfish were harmed in the filming of this video.
