Jermaine Jones, Season 11

Jermaine Jones’ DQ makes Idol history

0

I pointed this out in Thursday’s live blog, but thought it deserves repeating:  The disqualification of Jermaine Jones made Idol history of sorts.

He was only the second Idol contestant I can recall being disqualified from the competition after the finals began, Corey Clark from Season 2 being the other.

But it also marked the first time since way, way back in Season 1 that the first two contestants eliminated from the finals were guys on what has become a very male-friendly show.

Back in Season 1, there were only 10 contestants.

And the first three eliminated that year were EJ Day and Jim Verraros in the first round, and A.J. Gill the next week.

Most recently, the trend has been the opposite.

Two years ago, the first three contestants sent packing were ladies.

And last year marked an all-time low for the gals, with five leaving the show before a guy got the boot.

As for Jermaine, People caught up with him on Thursday and published this interview today.

He said he had no idea what was going on when he was summoned to meet with producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick while the Idol cameras rolled.

He also said he didn’t know he was breaking Idol’s rules, as producers said he did by not disclosing previous run-ins with the law.

Jermaine said he plans to move on with his career and hopes to record an album soon.

Meanwhile, Jermaine has launched a new Facebook page — emblazoned with his fashion shoot photos from Idol.  You can catch up with him here.
