Five readers have logged comments so far on Adam Lambert’s racy performance Sunday night at the American Music Awards.
They’re unanimous: It was not appropriate. Not for a nationally-televised awards show broadcast on a major network like ABC.
As I wrote Monday, given that platform, it’s a shame Adam decided to shock America with his on-stage antics rather than wow us with his amazing vocal talent.
It’s reality check time, Adam.
The entertainment world might have already embraced you but today — on debut day for that “wildly anticipated” album — you’re only sixth on the iTunes album chart, behind considerably less shocking artists like John Mayer and Susan Boyle … Susan Boyle, for crying out loud.
Oh, and Lady Gaga, who’s at number one and number three with different versions of her “Fame Monster.” But even she chose a less shocking AMA performance, and her album is miles better than yours.
Adam was supposed to get another chance in front of a national audience Wednesday morning. He was scheduled to be on Good Morning America, but Twitter Tweets seem to indicate that performance has been canceled after the AMA display.
Update: It has indeed. ABC issued this statement: “Given his controversial American Music Awards performance, we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning.”
Adam is also scheduled to appear on the David Letterman Show Wednesday night. I’m sure the AMAs will be a topic of discussion.

* Janey Ware: “I thought his performance was a little raunchy. I was a little disappointed. TV just isn’t what it used to be. I voted for him and I’m wondering why now.”
* Justin: “Wow!!! How disturbing is this dude. The somewhat entertaining AMAs ended on quite a low note. Between his ‘Prince’ like wannabe vocals and his ‘man humping,’ what is Dick Clark thinking? I just lost what little respect I have left for ‘Idol’. It’s hard to believe that this guy went through the same competition as Carrie and Daughtry who had great performances.”
* Dak: “Too bad that a music award show is now something else that kids shouldn’t be watching. TV sucks, in general, so this is just another reason not to watch.”
